RULES OF CARD GAME CLABBERJASS

BASIC RULES

The game is for 2 players using a pack of 32 cards in which cards 2-6 have been removed. Game is won by the player whose score first reaches or passes a total of 501. 6 cards are dealt. The remaining cards form the stock, the top card of which is turned up to establish the proposed trump. Once a trump is chosen, the dealer gives three cards more to each and turns the pack, upside down,so that the last card can be seen. Then players can declare combinations. Then they try to win as much points for the cards they have taken in tricks as possible. Card seniority during the play of the hand: ace, 10, king, queen, jack, 9, 8, 7 in simple suit: jack, 9, ace, 10, king, queen, 8, 7 in trump suit. The leader's opponent must follow suit if able and in case a trump is led must win the trick if able. If player cannot follow suit, then he must trump, having none of a trump-card too, he can play as he pleases. The king and the queen of trumps are 'Bella'. Player can score 20 points for the 'Bella' regardless of any other sequences. The 'Bella' may be declared wherever until player have the king or the queen of this 'Bella'.

HOW TO BID ( ACCEPT A SUIT AS TRUMP FOR THE HAND )

After each player was dealt 6 cards, the top card of the stock must be turned over to establish proposed trump suit - 'first trump'. The non-dealer can either agree to this trump or say 'I pass'. If he declines the 'first trump', dealer deside - to accept or decline the turn-up suit as trump. If both players refuse to accept 'first trump', they can choose in the same order any other trump suit or say 'I pass'. If both players decline any trump suit, there is a fresh deal by the original non-dealer. The deal alternates between players untill they choose a trump. 'The bidder' has to score more points in the game, then his opponent, otherwise his points are counted to his opponent. When 'the bidder lose the hand', the cause is often careless choice of trump. You can choice trump suit in this game by clicking the mouse button on a square in the right up corner of the screen. There is a sign of the suit on the square. You can refuse. If You click the mouse button on crossed square, it means that you decline this trump suit. There are 3 squares for the choice of a 'second' trump and one more crossed square for the refuse. The braun cross on a sign of the suit means that down player declined to play with such a trump suit. The green cross means that up player declined to play with such a trump suit.

SCORRING

Player can score points for cards in own tricks and for combinations. Card values in points: Ace -11; Ten - 10; King - 4; Queen -3; Jack - 20 points in trump suit, 2 points in another suit; Nine - 14 points in trump suit; 7, 8, simple 9 - no points. Sequences: runs of consecutive cards in one suit. The possible sequences are: fifty (4 cards, scores 50 points); tertz (3 cards, scores 20 points). Only holder of the best combination will count their combinations towards the final point count. When comparing sequences, one should bear in mind that: senior sequence is the one, which contains more cards. If numbers of cards are equal, senior sequence is the one, which contains senior card. If cards of comparing sequences are of the same value, this is the advantage of the annoncer (non-dealer). If You have more then 1 combination of different cards and your declared combination is the winning one, you can score points for the inferior other sequences too.All sequences must be shown if it is to score. The player taking the last trick counts 10 points in addition. 'Bella' values in 20 points.

TACTICS, TRICS, EXAMPLES

All examles are from real hands of computer card game CARDPARADE.

A trap for opponent

A player can 'get in trap' in this game. Here you see such a situation. Both players declined the turn-up suit as trump. (7 of hearts under pack). Then Ozzy accepted spades as trump (you see panel with spade signs in right-upper corner of screen). Panel with word 'I risk' means that he's responsible for game. In case opponent will score more points on this hand, he will give all points scored by Ozzy.

Unsuccessful lead of Ozzy

If lower player will win though one trick, he will score 50 points for bertz (fifty). Ozzy hoped that opponent has 2 hearts or more and led in ace of hearts and then in 10 of hearts. But opponent had only 9 of hearts. So he will kill 10 of hearts with trump 10. It's 20 points and there are a hope that 10 of diamonds will score too. So Ozzy has to score 80 points to escape. It's very difficult.
